The Nomad and the mirror

Every three months in new locations.
Circular movements.
And no permanent home.

How does the Nomad find rest, clear focal points? What does she build?
A way of living I don't quite understand how to make the best of.
What is left behind at every move? And what does she bring with her?

I have a feeling we all need to save up our experiences and life expertise into more than just memories - that weakens in time.
A shelter. A frame. A home? Something that helps us remember what we know, what we have learned, what we have lived. So that we do more than move into countless iterations, sometimes uncertain if we have already lived it - repeating ourselves, or even adding mistakes where we once solved that single life equation with brilliance.

Maybe the Nomad solves it by storing herself in the collective conscious of the group that travels with her?
And how permanent must that group be to keep a picture of you? To be able to communicate this reflection of yourself back to you?

The Nomad asks the Nomad.

The Spaceship or The Transporter?

You may choose between the following 2 objects:

1. A fully functional personal Transporter. It will instantly beam/transport/delocate-relocate you to any desirable location on the Planet Earth.
Limitations:
* Only functions on Earth
* Only you may use it (and smaller objects you have on you)

2. A fully operational Spaceship. It can carry 200 people, of your choice.
It travels 400 x Speed of Light (as an estimate you will need 20 years to reach the closest planet where current astronomers don't rule out the possibility of some kind of life). The Spaceship is completely self-sustainable with a fantastic renewable energy solution.
Limitations:
* Does not have a Transporter

So, which is you?

I am an advocate for the Spaceship. To boldly go where no man has gone before. To leave something established behind. To be an explorer. And risk all you have had, uprooting, for the possibility of something extraordinary.
I just quoted Star Trek.
And yesterday I found the musical theme. For choosing the Spaceship.

Thanks to Manuel playing every Monday @ King Kong Bar (Berlin) for bringing this wonderful track to my mind.
Jan Turkenburg and his pupils of the Catholic Geert Grote School delivers beauty with the track In My Spaceship.
(For those who wants to sing along.)

IN MY SPACESHIP (Lyrics)

(Ashes to ashes, funk to funky,
we know Major Tom's a junky...)

Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five,
four, three, two, one, lift off!

Watch out cause I'm taking off, in my spaceship
Well farewell and lot's of love, in my spaceship
Yes, I've had it up to here
It's best to simply disappear

I will meet T'poll and Dax, in my spaceship
Take a holo to relax, in my spaceship
I'll shake hands with Miles O'Brien
Says my engine's doing fine

And to boldly go where no-one's ever gone before
I'll just won't be back no more

Have a drink with doctor Who, in my spaceship
To the Interstellar Zoo, in my spaceship
Singing Klingon having fun
Start a fight and then be gone

No more lessons, no more work, in his spaceship
Gone is Mister Turkenburg, in his spaceship
Yes, I've had it up to here (Beam me up, Scotty!)
It's best to simply disappear

And to bouldly go where no-one's ever gone before
I'll just won't be back no more

(Wooooow! Houston, we got a problem!)

Bye bye school and bye bye world in my spaceship
Jesse Klundert taking off in my spaceship
No more moaning say good-bye
See my brother no more cry in my spaceship
No more busy, always quiet in my spaceship
I will travel through the night in my spaceship
No more home work, no more home work!
No more tidying up my room, in my spaceship
We will travel on the moon, in my spaceship
Gone is Missis Hoogerman, in her spaceship
No more science, no more maths
Gone is whole the f***** mess!
No more home work, no more school, in my spaceship
Go to space are very cool, no more home work
In his spaceship, in his spaceship, in his ...

Yes, I've had it up to here (Get off my bridge!)
It's best to simply disappear (Energize)

And to boldly go where no-one's ever gone before
I'll just won't be back no more

Tien, negen, acht, zeven, zes,
vijf, vier, drie, twee, een!
Dag Meneer Jan!

Mostly relocated allocated

6m3 transit wagon
700 km
6 straight hours in front of the wheel.
My first time driving the Autobahn.
Arriving 3 am last night. Now here. In Berlin.
After 4 hours sleep the van was unpacked, and is being returned to Denmark, courtesy of my friend, Mr. Symon. I get to stay at his place until I find my own. Perfect.
Nothing much has happened here yet. But the atmosphere I merge with tells me I am doing the right thing.
I started the day hooking up my Technics 1210, finally getting to listen to my newly acquired 12": Dean Cole's impressive Discipline from 2001. Pure Beauty.
Continuing to sort all my vinyl according to style, and got rid of some too.

And now on to the final project! Getting closer. Day by day.

Mostly Kaospiloting towards the real world

I have a basic motivational drive run by the belief that:

Sharing of resources and ideas
leads to
a greater public domain
leads to
creativity/co-creation/participative creation
leads to
social innovation
leads to
greater living conditions for humanity as a fellowship/global community.

(Yes, she is in love with the future.)

I believe in the OS-principles as a starting point for designing sustainable and social innovative solutions for the future.
Not only does it supports my general belief that sharing intellectual resources and products will lead to a grander ideation pool, that will benefit the whole of humanity as well as individuals. I also believe that is happening no matter whether we like it or not, as a result of digitalization and socio-digital networks, so we might just as well be pro-active about it.

Let shortly look at those trends:

1. Socio-digital networks
Communities come into being/arise from shared motivations and passions.
We are no longer restricted to and bound by a geographical area.
We gather because we share similar ideas, interests, values and hopes. Not because we have to, out of duty. Internet as young global framework opens these borders. And by that, challenges traditional institutions of government.
So we see a shift from a mechanical world view to a more systemic view on human interaction and organization.
However, the net is being regulated by the producers of code. Who controls the programmers?

2. Digitalization
The notion of intellectual property is being challenged in a digital culture.
One might argue that ideas never can become anyone's property as they are the result of human interaction throughout history and an artist's life experience, and hence never something that appear separately and distinctly in an artist's mind.
Anne Nimus - a two-person team pseudonym - describes this shift in history - from viewing the artist as a craftsman and a messenger that could appropriate/communicate the common knowledge - to ideas being the property of an artist's unique personality. A shift that marks the beginning of and now, I would argue, outdated concept of copyright

The idea of a copy no longer holds the same impact as it did before digitalization.
E.g.
Resources used in producing a copy of a book.
1 book
- 500 g of paper
- 10 ml ink
- unknown amount of Erg (energy)

2 books
- 1000 g of paper
- 20 ml ink
- 2x (unknown amount)of Erg

Now the duplication of 1 piece of intellectual property can be done by a mouse-click, and the only cost is the hard-drive storage and the energy used when accessing the HD. That is if you don't want to go physical and have a real-life copy.

3. Paradigm of Openness
Looking into the history of the Free Open Source Software movement, we see the value of sharing the recipe. I argue that a product/service only is improved by the motivated input of many, instead of restricting it to the work of a single development team.
What does Open mean?
- The recipe/method for production/creation is available
- Transparency
What does Free mean?
It is more a question about availability than about something being given away at no cost. Or as Lawrence Lessig (founder of Creative Commons) puts it, what resources should be available and accessible to anyone, and not controlled by either state or marked?

I am curious of how we can utilize open source/copyleft/open copyright as the basic principle in designing a future business model? How do we capitalize on freedom (focusing on no-cost or on availability) and openness (transparency)?

As I wrote in a previous blog:
With the GPL (General Public License - stating that you have the right to use a given product, and the code for the product as you please - you may alter it, redefine, extend it - as long as you provide the people you distribute it to with the same set of freedom as you were given) the general copyright paradigm is challenged. That is powerful. And it can be capitalized. Open source as a concept isn’t necessarily about something being given away for free. Your customization of a product/service is key, if there is a community out there with that specific need. At the same time you empower you customers as they have the possibility to remix the product further.
People are driven by their engagement to create and to share – and what limits creation is interest/motivation, not copyright.

So, what are we afraid of losing when opening up?
Main reason must be reduction in profits. And this is where my journey begins.
Final project underway. Now in the search of a company that is willing to try out new ideas with me.

Water mirrored

I went swimming today.
1125m.
Head over water, inhaling through the mouth
Head under water, exhaling through the nose
Up and down, body fully emerged in bluish colored fluid.
I looked down, and I felt you.
I felt you swimming underneath me, on your back, facing me.
We are dolphins, whales mirroring each other.
So close, but never touching.
The moment lasts and lasts.
I step out of the water,
knowing that I left you there.
Knowing that I want to go back.

Is this healing?

Mostly from Norway, or?

Miss Mostly is a Norwegian.
And as we all know, Norwegians are born with skis attached to their feet.
That is also the case with Miss Mostly.
However, urban life and continental travels has challenged the once excellent skiing performance of yours truly. And I got footage to prove it.
Darn! I need to spend more time in my home country...

Mostly skiing, take one

video

For those who don't understand Norwegian here is what she said!

- Then we're ready!

Mostly skiing, take two

video

Translation:

- Round two
(comment by Mostly's brother and movie director, Mr. Twinspeaker)

- Yeah, then vi are heading down (this slope) as Ola Nordmann
(
Ola: generic male Norwegian name
Nordmann: directly translating into Male from the North meaning a Norwegian
)
would have done it.

- Åsa Nordkvinne
(
Åsa: generic women Norwegian name
Nordkvinne: directly translating into Woman from the North, not used in the Norwegian language
)

- (some garbled talk)

- Freyja!
(A goddess of love, beauty, and fertility in Norse mythology)

- Freyja on skis!

- Here she comes thundering/hammering down the slope!

- Lalalala!
